- Medicare Urgent Care Clinics are for any patient with a non-life threatening illness or injury. We're about that middle stream patient that doesn't need to go to emergency, can't avail a GP, but needs that care on the day. I've got cold and flu symptoms happening. I just couldn't stop coughing. If you take an example of Amanda, she's not very unwell to be in ED. She's not too unwell to call an ambulance, but she's just not right. Places like this, we can initiate treatment. As you can see, she's responded very well, very quickly. Much better. I couldn't even put two words together before. We do have a really good service with our Medicare Urgent Care Clinic. We provide a really high standard of care, both by our nurses and also our doctors, And we have the treatments, the splints, the bandages, so it's really optimising a centre and utilising them to provide that care, which I think is really helpful for the community. But we should reserve urgent care for people who are ill in terms of high temperature, coughing, vomiting. If you're just coming in to try and get your regular script or something like that, that unfortunately is not something that we can attend to. I cut the tip of my finger open. I didn't think it was drastic enough that I needed the emergency department, but just wanted to make sure that it wasn't too bad that it got infected. I had a little bit of a almost fainting episode, and they were beautiful, they helped me straight away. I think the Urgent Care Clinics are brilliant. It's critical, it's the most useful thing I've seen in 40 years of doing this job. It's also very fulfilling because we're actually helping people and people appreciate it without having to go to an emergency department. You might have to have a bit of a wait, but the staff are lovely. I could kiss these men, they've made me feel a lot better.
