On Saturday, August 31, we celebrated our 2024 Health Equity Awards, a night dedicated to honouring the exceptional primary health care providers in our region, who are paving the way for a healthier and more equitable healthcare system.

The event was attended by Member for Boothby Louise Miller-Frost MP, State Minister for Health and Wellbeing Chris Picton, and Multicultural Communities Council of SA CEO Helena Kyriazopoulos, who delivered powerful keynote speeches on health equity.

Guiding us through the evening was award-winning journalist, producer, and presenter Caroline Winter, who returned as our MC to ensure a memorable night. The evening's tone was set with an engaging Welcome to Country by Robert Taylor, Didgeridoo Player David Booth, and the Imbala Dance Group. Their performance reminded us of the profound connection between health, culture, and community.

The awards ceremony recognised five exceptional organisations for their dedicated work in providing equitable and accessible healthcare, these winners included:

  • Adelaide City General Practice for their commitment to primary care for vulnerable communities.
  • The Lived Experience Leadership & Advocacy Network for their implementation of the Alternatives to Suicide Program.
  • Thorne Harbour Health for their vital services to the LGBTQIA+ community and individuals living with HIV.
  • Lives Lived Well for their delivery of the Northern Adelaide Children & Family Mental Health Service.
  • UniSA City West Health and Medical Clinic for providing specialised care for transgender and gender-diverse community members.

To showcase the remarkable work of these winners, WatchPost filmed five engaging videos that were featured during the event, highlighting their significant contributions and ongoing dedication. In addition to this the winners also received a handcrafted trophy, from none other than Aboriginal Steel Art.

The 2024 Health Equity Awards were nothing short of a success, and we would like to congratulate all winners for their dedication to achieving an equitable and accessible healthcare system. Thank you to everyone who joined us for a remarkable night.
