2024 SA Population Health Conference: A Step Forward for Public Health in South Australia

On Friday, October 25, the Australian Health Promotion SA Branch and the Public Health Association held the 2024 SA Population Health Conference, marking the event's first in-person gathering since 2019. This year’s theme, "High Value Public Health in a Complex World," served as a backdrop for vital discussions on navigating public health challenges while fostering innovation and collaboration.
This is the premier developmental opportunity in South Australia for emerging public health researchers and practitioners to present their work to a local audience.
The day commenced with an inspiring keynote address by Marina Bowshall, CEO of Preventive Health SA, who set a powerful tone for the discussions ahead. The Adelaide PHN team presented in the ‘Collaborating for public health and health promotion’ stream and ‘Embedding evaluation in public health initiative’ stream. They spoke about our collaboration with the Flinders University Caring Futures Institute, Early Intervention in general practice project and the work we did with northern Adelaide general practices to support refugee health.
The conference not only highlighted innovative public health strategies but also emphasised the importance of community engagement and interdisciplinary partnerships. We extend our thanks to everyone who made this event possible and commend all APHN staff for their outstanding presentations. Their efforts are crucial in shaping the future of public health in South Australia, driving us toward a healthier community for all.
