Adelaide PHN Recognises World Suicide Prevention Day with Special Visit
On Tuesday 10 September, Adelaide PHN recognised World Suicide Prevention Day by hosting South Australia’s Mental Health Commissioner, Taimi Allan. Allan spoke with staff, sharing her personal experiences and debunking myths about suicide. Her visit highlighted this year’s theme, "Changing the Narrative on Suicide", with a clear call to action: "Start the Conversation." This theme encourages open dialogue to reduce stigma and raise awareness about suicide prevention.
Allan’s insights empowered staff to understand how they can contribute to creating a more supportive and understanding society, both professionally and personally.
To raise awareness on the importance of this day, staff also learned about Sophie’s Legacy, a charity dedicated to raising awareness of suicide in the veterinary industry, founded after the tragic loss of skilled veterinarian Dr Sophie Putland. In support, Adelaide PHN staff chose Sophie’s Legacy as their fundraising focus for September.
Adelaide PHN continues its work within communities and the healthcare system to support the region, driving efforts to reduce stigma and improve social and emotional wellbeing and mental health outcomes. Together, we aim to change the narrative on suicide, fostering a future where compassionate conversations foster hope and save lives.
