Adelaide PHN Staff Engage in Kaurna Language

Adelaide PHN staff had the opportunity to participate in Kuma Kaaru’s ‘Introduction to Kaurna Language’ program, a three-part workshop aimed at enhancing cultural competency and understanding of the Kaurna language. This workshop aligns with Adelaide PHN’s ongoing commitment, to deepening engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The program was structured into three sessions, each focusing on a critical aspect of the Kaurna language and culture. The first session emphasised cultural awareness, providing staff with an understanding of Kaurna traditions, values, social structures and history of the Kaurna language.
The final two sessions were interactive workshops, where staff actively engaged in learning the Kaurna language. Staff embraced the experience, stepping out of their comfort zones to connect with the language.
The sessions were led by Kuma Kaaru’s cultural educator Steven Warrior, a proud Kaurna, Narungga, and Kokatha man, and Kaurna language educator Jack Kanya Kudnuitya Buckskin, a proud Kaurna and Narungga man. Their expertise and passion played a crucial role in making the program a valuable experience for all involved.
