Adelaide PHN visits STTARS's Mental Health Service for Adults and CALD Communities in Salisbury
Adelaide PHN Youth Lead, Kirsty Degrabiele, recently visited the Survivors of Torture and Trauma Assistance and Rehabilitation Service’s (SSTARS) Mental Health Service for Adults from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Communities in Salisbury. The visit provided a comprehensive overview of the service’s achievements and ongoing challenges since its inception over a year ago.
The STTARS team offered a warm welcome including their celebration of and presentation for Wear It Purple Day. This event was a significant opportunity to discuss the intersectionality of being both culturally and linguistically diverse and LGBTQIA+, bringing attention to the unique needs of these communities.
STTARS is dedicated to enhancing mental health among CALD adults through a specialised program. This includes Bilingual Peer Support Workers who aid service users in navigating mental health services and accessing appropriate care. The service provides culturally sensitive, low-intensity therapy for individuals and groups, as well as clinical care coordination for eligible clients.
Additionally, STTARS ensures that language barriers are addressed by providing access to interpreters. Referrals are accepted from community services, health professionals, and self-referrals. Adelaide PHN is proud to commission a service that aims to support the CALD community with accessible mental health support.
