Aged Care Providers – Palliative Care: Are you ready for Nov 1?

From November 1, 2025 the new Aged Care Act will take effect, bringing significant changes to the aged care system, with strengthened Aged Care Standards and the new, Support and Home Program. The new rights-based legislation includes changes to the equitable access to palliative care and End-of-Life care responsibilities.

What’s changing?

  • The introduction of Standard 5 (Clinical Care) and Outcomes 5.7 (Palliative care and End-of-Life care)
  • Strengthened Aged Care Quality standards with measurable outcomes and an emphasis on individual’s needs, goals and preferences for End-of-Life care.
  • The inclusion of an End-of-Life Pathway and dedicated funding for End-of Life care, to support older people living at home in the last 3 months of life.
