Arexvy® RSV vaccine added to National Immunisation Program
National Immunisation Program update- RSV adult vaccination
The RSV adult vaccine, Arexvy®, has been included on the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for the below two cohorts;
- All people from 75 years of age
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from 60 years of age
- A single dose of RSV vaccine is recommended for these cohorts due to their increased risk of complications from RSV infection and hospitalisation.
- The increased burden of RSV disease among older adult populations is experienced at an earlier age in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population.
- The Arexvy RSV vaccine can be administered at any time of year and can be co-administered with other vaccines such as COVID-19, influenza, pneumococcal and zoster.
- Adults who have previously had an RSV infection, should receive the vaccine once they have recovered.
- The need for further doses in older people has not yet been established
Arexvy® can be ordered through the Vaccine Distribution Centre (VDC). Immunisation providers are encouraged to monitor the VDC Noticeboard and emails for further updates.
There will be three funded RSV immunisation products available in 2026.
- BeyfortusTM monoclonal antibody for infants under the state funded RSV Infant Protection Program
- Abrysvo® RSV antenatal vaccine under the NIP- RSV Maternal Protection Program
- Arexvy® RSV vaccine for older persons under the NIP.
The RSV immunisation product alert resource has been developed to assist providers administering RSV products to ensure the correct RSV product is administered to the correct eligible cohort. This resource can be printed and used to label baskets in vaccination fridges and placed in other prominent clinical areas to reduce the risk of program errors.

The National Immunisation Program-South Australia Schedule has now been updated into two separate resources:
