Better and Faster Access: Share by Default on My Health Record requirements now in effect

From 1 July 2026, pathology and diagnostic imaging reports authored by, or on behalf of, a pathologist or radiologist must be uploaded to My Health Record by default, unless an exception applies or an extension of time has been granted. This requirement applies to reports only and does not include diagnostic images.

These changes will help ensure patients and their healthcare providers can access important health information through My Health Record, supporting more informed clinical decision-making and continuity of care.

Reports must be uploaded within 24 hours of being provided to the requesting healthcare provider, another treating healthcare provider or the patient.

What does this mean for healthcare providers?

More pathology and diagnostic imaging reports are now available through My Health Record, giving healthcare providers access to a broader range of patient information while continuing to use their existing clinical systems and workflows.

Patients may also be able to view some of their reports in My Health Record or the 1800MEDICARE app, helping to facilitate more informed and interactive follow-up consultations. Healthcare providers are encouraged to discuss report availability and follow-up arrangements with patients when tests are ordered, and guidance resources are available to help patients understand and interpret their results.

See how better and faster access to health information can help clinicians.

This video highlights how improved access to health information through My Health Record supports clinicians in delivering better patient care. Allied health professionals, such as Advanced Sports Dietitian Peta Carige, can quickly access the information they need to make informed decisions and improve patient outcomes.
