Building our Financial Confidence to Strengthen Commissioning

Finance course

Financial literacy is essential to ensuring Adelaide PHN delivers value for money and remains a responsible steward of Commonwealth and other public funds.

This month, our contract management staff took part in a two-day Finance for Non-Financial Managers course, facilitated through Adelaide University Learning Futures.

The program was expertly led by Mark Priadko, whose practical and engaging approach generated rich discussion and valuable learning across both days.

Participants explored how budgets are structured and monitored, how to interpret financial reports, and how financial analysis supports effective decision-making.

The course also strengthened skills in developing effective budget documentation and critically assessing provider financial information.

The learning directly supports our commitment to strong oversight of service delivery and the early identification of financial risks that could affect service continuity. It will be brought into future projects aimed at enhancing the quality of contracter financial reporting and improving monitoring processes across our organisation.

By applying these insights, we can further strengthen commissioning decisions, contract management practices, and provider performance insight.

The feedback from our staff was overwhelmingly positive, and the skills gained will continue to support high quality commissioning outcomes across our organisation.
