CAMHS GP ADHD Shared Care Program Update
The ADHD GP Shared Care and CAMHS Transition Psychiatry Service has been funded for another two years!
This achievement is a testament to the dedication of South Australian GPs who continue to support young people with ADHD, as well as the invaluable contributions of the Local Health Network (LHN) Paediatric Units and GPEx. GPEX played a pivotal role during the pilot phase of the program, leveraging their extensive experience in shared care models-including Obstetric and Palliative Shared Care, to engage general practice stakeholders across the state.
As of March 2025, CAMHS has assumed ongoing management of the ADHD GP Shared Care Program, with GPEX no longer providing patient or GP practice support. Support for patients and GPs is provided by the CAMHS GP ADHD Shared Care Co-ordination Team, CAMHS Executive, who can be contacted by email CAMHSResources@sa.gov.au or phone 08 8161 7198.
CAMHS will continue to support required transition psychiatry visits for public paediatric patients with ADHD, under the recently announced expanded GP ADHD diagnosis and treatment role expected to be launched in 2026.
Interested GP are encouraged to complete the registration form using this link here.
GPs who have previously registered with GPEX are encouraged to register again with CAMHS to ensure our GP list is up-to-date.

About CAMHS GP ADHD Shared Care
Prior to the GP ADHD Shared Care program, young people with ADHD experienced exceptionally long waits for state-regulated psychiatrist supervision of medication, at the critical time of finishing school or pursuing further studies and work.
Transition Psychiatry Service
Now through the ADHD GP Shared Care Program, young people can access a CAMHS transition psychiatry visit. This visit can approve the GP Authority to prescribe ADHD stimulant medication for up to 5 years. Opt-In GP role as ADHD Shared Care Provider
The GP ADHD Shared Care Program remains entirely voluntary. In the event the regular GP determines it is not suitable for them to take on the role of ADHD Shared Care GP, the CAMHS team will support connection with another GP.
Flexible involvement
There are three levels of GP ADHD Shared Care Registration, with options to provide ADHD Shared Care for existing and new patients or existing patients only. You may also choose to opt out of the program, knowing that this can be changed at any time.
