Effective 29 August 2024, SA Pathology will change testing principle for Chromogranin A (CgA) testing from ELISA to an automated immunofluorescence analyser, the ThermoFisher B.R.A.H.M.S Kryptor Gold.

Validation studies show results from the Kryptor Gold will be directly comparable to results from ELISA testing. The Kryptor Gold shows excellent precision with automatic dilutions for samples with elevated CgA concentrations, a process that was previously manually performed. Testing on the Kryptor Gold will enable twice weekly testing, significantly improving turnaround times.

Collection requirements

There is no change to collection requirements.

  • Patient should be fasting.
  • One Gold serum (gel) spun, separated and frozen within 24 hours.
  • Samples must be frozen for transport between laboratories.
  • An Agreement to Pay is required for all non-hospital patients.

The cost per test remains unchanged at $45 (non-MBS item – requiring an Agreement to Pay form for non-public patients). A comment will be included in all reports to alert clinicians to the change in testing.

For further information, please contact the On-Call Clinical Biochemist on 8222 3444 or the testing laboratory on 8222 3415.

Regards Dr Jill Lipsett Clinical Service Director SA Pathology
