DHDA Factsheet: Support at Home Prices for Allied Health and Nursing Services

The Department of Health and Aged Care has released updated guidance on pricing for allied health, therapeutic, and nursing services under the Support at Home program. This update introduces greater flexibility for providers by allowing separate billable units for direct (face-to-face) and indirect activities.

Previously, time-based services could only include a single billable unit for face-to-face time. Under the new guidance, providers can now set distinct prices for activities such as documentation, care planning, and case conferencing, without bundling these costs into direct service pricing.

Key Changes:

  • Separate unit prices for direct and indirect activities.
  • Indirect activities include record keeping, preparing reports, coordinating referrals, and designing care plans.
  • Travel costs must remain part of direct service pricing.
  • Providers must invoice direct and indirect activities separately and retain records as per the Aged Care Rules 2025.

For example, a physiotherapy provider may charge $185 per hour for direct services and $100 per hour for indirect activities, invoicing these as separate items agreed upon in the participant’s care plan.

Additional Notes:

  • Care management billing remains unchanged and includes both direct and indirect activities.
  • Allied health services under the Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) scheme can also include indirect time for planning and consultation.
  • Providers must ensure prices reflect actual costs and maintain transparency. The department will monitor pricing from 1 November 2025, and unreasonable pricing may lead to compliance action.
