eLearning for aged care providers- Department of Health, Disability and Ageing

The Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care has developed a comprehensive eLearning program to support aged care providers in preparing for the Aged Care Act 2024. These learning modules are designed to help organisations understand legislative changes, adapt their operations, and embed best practices into service delivery. 

Purpose of the eLearning Program 

The eLearning resources are specifically aimed at aged care providers and their workforce. They support organisations in building knowledge and capability to comply with the new Act, while reinforcing a rights-based and person-centred approach to care. 

Providers are encouraged to use these modules as part of their staff training programs. A checklist of training opportunities is also available to help organisations track progress and ensure staff complete required learning. 

Overview of the Learning Modules 

The program consists of a series of structured modules, each focusing on different aspects of the reform: 

Module 1: Understanding and Adapting to the Aged Care Act 2024 

This introductory module provides an overview of the key changes introduced by the new legislation. It takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and includes topics such as: 

• Understanding the Aged Care Act 2024 
• Addressing ageism and promoting respect 
• Embedding the Statement of Rights and Principles into practice 
• Navigating registration, funding, and service models 
• Quality standards and assurance 
• Ethical governance and accountability 
• Leading organisational change 

Module 2: Aligning to Changes – Implementing the Aged Care Act 2024 

Also around 30 minutes in duration, this module focuses on operational readiness and implementing key reforms required by 1 November 2025. 

Topics include: 

• Rights-based care and operational responsibilities 
• Culturally safe service design 
• Supported decision-making and provider roles 
• Provider registration and compliance requirements 
• Regulatory models and Quality Standards 
• Digital systems and ICT requirements 
• Residential and in-home care reforms 
• Program readiness for specific initiatives 
• Organisational impact assessment 
• Complaints handling and whistleblower protections 

Module 3: Embedding Best Practice in the Aged Care System 

This module is delivered in stages and focuses on strengthening long-term capability: 

• Release 1: Workforce capability and readiness 
• Release 2: Embedding rights into everyday practice 

Module 4: Reflecting and Adjusting 

The final module supports providers in evaluating their progress and refining practices as reforms are embedded across the organisation.
