Embracing our Continuing Journey at Mourning in the Morning

Adelaide PHN was proud to support Australia Day in South Australia's Mourning in the Morning ceremony at Elder Park/Tarntanya Wama on 26 January.

Staff joined close to 3,000 community members gathered to honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures and perspectives, led by South Australian First Nations community leaders.

Guided by the theme, Our Continuing Journey, the event held space for mourning and truth-telling, while affirming the living strength, resilience, and continuity of First Nations cultures across our lands.

The ceremony opened with a warm Welcome to Kaurna Country by Elder Uncle Moogy Sumner AM, and also featured inspiring First Nations speakers, musicians and dancers.

It concluded with a powerful smoking ceremony conducted by Uncle Moogy, bringing Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians together in a moment of respect.

Adelaide PHN is grateful to stand alongside community in continuing to listen, learn and walk together.
