Empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health: Leveraging Data for Better Health Outcomes
Adelaide PHN recently hosted its much-anticipated Reconciliation Event, Empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health: Leveraging Data for Better Health Outcomes. The event was a collaborative effort, developed by the Adelaide PHN Reconciliation Working Group to explore how data can improve health outcomes for First Nations people, particularly in the realm of social and emotional wellbeing.
Attendees were encouraged to engage deeply with the discussions, with a standout keynote from Dr. Mark Wenitong. Drawing from his extensive experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, Dr. Wenitong highlighted how data can be a powerful tool to enhance healthcare systems for Indigenous communities. His firsthand insights offered practical strategies to leverage data for better health outcomes.
Associate Professor Courtney Ryder followed Dr. Wenitong with a compelling talk on the same theme, emphasising the potential for data to drive meaningful changes in healthcare services.
The event also featured a panel discussion with Dr. Wenitong, Associate Professor Ryder, and Aboriginal Health Council SA CEO Tanya McGregor, moderated by Jason Downs, CEO of Reconciliation SA. The panel explored real-world applications of data and ways to address ongoing healthcare disparities.
This event marks a key milestone in Adelaide PHN’s Reconciliation journey, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to building a healthcare system that is inclusive and accessible for all, particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
We would like to thank everyone who joined us, to all speakers/panellists for delving deeper into these importance topics and to Reconciliation SA for partnering on this event.
