Free Training Opportunity - Suicide Prevention for Senior Program
Anglicare’s Suicide Prevention for Seniors Program is a free, government funded initiatives designed to equip anyone working with older adults with the skills to recognise and respond to signs of suicidal thoughts. Older Australians, particularly those aged 85 and over, have some of the highest age-specific suicide rates, yet they are the least likely to access mental health services. This training aims to bridge that gap.

- Format: Online (via zoom) or face to face
- Duration: 3 hours
- Cost: Free for online sessions, face to face sessions incur a fee
- Audience: aged care workers, retirement living staff, allied health professionals, pharmacists, GPs, unpaid carers and family members
- No prior mental health knowledge required

- Warning signs and risk factors specific to older adults
- Protective factors specific to older adults
- How to have an empathetic conversation
- How to identify suicidal thoughts and refer for professional support
- Non-clinical support strategies
