General Practice in Aged Care Incentive (GPACI) Update
October Payment Delay
Payments for the 1 July – 30 September 2025 quarter have been delayed and are now expected in mid-November. The delay is due to system updates required to reflect recent guideline changes.
Updated GPACI Guidelines
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has made two key changes to reduce participation barriers:
- BBPIP Accreditation Exclusion: Practices with a Bulk Billing Practice Incentive accreditation exemption are not eligible for GPACI. Practices must meet MyMedicare accreditation requirements, including exemptions for mobile or outreach models.
- 12-Month Exclusion Period Removed: Previously, if a patient didn’t receive two eligible care planning services within 12 months, and one wasn’t completed in the following quarter, the provider became ineligible for GPACI payments for the next year. This rule has now been removed, meaning providers will no longer face a 12-month exclusion.
These updates will ensure payments continue as usual when patients meet service requirements. Practices must still deliver 10 eligible services annually (2 care planning items and 8 regular visits, with 2 visits in separate months each quarter).

New GPACI Hints & Tips Resource
A new Health Professional Education Resource highlights the importance of maintaining a clear relationship between the practice, patient, and Responsible Provider. The GPACI assessment and reassessment process relies on this relationship, and any changes can affect current or past payments.
If patient details change, follow the steps outlined in the resource — ensuring previous Responsible Providers are not deleted: 🔗GPACI Hints & Tips (Services Australia)
