Honouring 50 Years of Deadly at NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week 2026 provided an opportunity for Adelaide PHN to stand alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in celebrating 50 Years of Deadly. 

Throughout the week, our staff, Board members and leaders participated in local events that recognised the strength and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

The week kicked off with the NAIDOC SA Community Awards at the Adelaide Convention Centre, which honoured the outstanding achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in South Australia.

We were a proud sponsor of the Young Person of the Year Award, which as won by Jackson Coaby. Through this sponsorship, we celebrate emerging Aboriginal leaders who are making a meaningful difference in their communities and inspiring future generations.

On 10 July, some of our team members then took part in the NAIDOC March, walking together in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We marched from Victoria Square to Parliament House, where we had the opportunity to hear from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders, reflecting on the history, achievements and future aspirations of its people.

This year marked the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC, with the theme 50 Years of Deadly celebrating five decades of strength, culture, resilience and achievement. It honours the Elders, leaders, artists, advocates and communities who have shaped the movement, while recognising the next generation who will continue to carry culture, language and community leadership into the future.
