LGBTIQA+ Lived Experience Community of Practice Launched
On 30 July, the Mental Health Coalition of South Australia launched its LGBTIQA+ Lived Experience Community of Practice, funded by Adelaide PHN under the LGBTIQA+ Suicide Prevention Capacity Building Project.
The launch, 'learning from our past to build our future', brought together community, and featured a Q&A panel with guest speakers Jenny Scott, Margie Fischer, Maureen Cook, Greg Kelly and Will Sergeant - trailblazers who have made a mark on LGBTIQA+ rights and visibility in South Australia.
The community of practice has been co-designed to support LGBTIQA+ people working in lived experience roles through peer connection, collective learning and advocacy.
The initiative aims to build community resilience through peer-led and lived experience activities and supporting the development of the peer and lived experience workforce.
It provides a unique opportunity for people who are part of the LGBTIQA+ community and working in designed lived experience roles to:
- Gain practical strategies and meaningful knowledge that supports professional development
- Build relationships with peers, creating a strong sense of community and mututal support
- Engage in professional development and capacity-building activities with guest speakers who bring invaluable expertise.
