Medicare Urgent Care Clinics: Referral Criteria
Medicare Urgent Care Clinics (MUCCs) are now an important part of the health landscape across the Adelaide Primary Health Network (Adelaide PHN), offering timely care for patients with urgent but non-life‑threatening conditions. With six clinics now operating across the region, MUCCs help reduce pressure on hospital emergency departments while giving patients rapid access to assessment, diagnostics, and treatment.
What MUCCs Provide
MUCCs are designed for walk‑in care and are ideal for patients who need urgent attention but do not require emergency department services. They are staffed by experienced health professionals who can assess and manage a wide range of presentations, including:
- Minor infections
- Minor fractures, sprains, sports injuries and neck and back pain
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
- Minor cuts
- Insect bites and rashes
- Minor eye and ear infections
- Respiratory illness
- Gastroenteritis
- Mild burns
