Mental Health Boost for Southern Adelaide

A new Medicare Mental Health Centre will be established in Onkaparinga, expanding access to free mental health care in Southern Adelaide.

The new centre was officially announced on 29 July by Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Emma McBridge, and Member for Kingston and Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations Amanda Rishworth.

It will be the second Medicare Mental Health Centre to open in Adelaide, adding to the northern centre which has been operating since April 2024.

The service will provide free, walk-in mental health support with no appointment or referral required.

Staffed by a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers and peer workers, the centre will offer immediate and ongoing support, helping people access quality mental health care when and where they need it most.

"The new Medicare Mental Health Centre will provide free, walk-in mental health support, ensuring people can access quality care close to home, without needing an appointment or referral," Assistant Minister McBride said.
