NEW: Breast density guidance for GPs
BreastScreen SA measures and reports individual breast density to participants as part of their regular screening program. High breast density is associated with lower sensitivity of screening mammography, as well as a slightly increased risk of breast cancer.
Health professionals play a critical role in helping women understand what breast density means and why it matters. A new BreastScreen Australia resource is available to support discussions between healthcare providers and patients identified with high breast density. The guidance provides practical advice for GPs to discuss breast density and breast cancer screening in the context their patients overall risk for breast cancer.
