New guideline for Therapeutic Venesection - SA Pathology

SA Pathology has implemented recommended timeframes for Haemoglobin (Hb) check prior to therapeutic venesection as follows:

• Polycythaemia Vera (PV) patients require an FBE within 7 days prior to venesection.
• Haemochromatosis patients require an FBE within 4 weeks prior to venesection.

The recommended timelines follow extensive Clinician consultation to improve overall patient and health outcomes.
