New guidelines for the early detection of prostate cancer

prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, with around 26,000 men diagnosed each year and almost 4,000 deaths annually.

Australia has new national guidelines for the early detection of prostate cancer. Developed by the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia in partnership with Cancer Council Australia, the 2026 Clinical Guidelines for the Early Detection of Prostate Cancer in Australia replace the 2016 guidelines.

The new guidelines provide evidence-based recommendations on risk assessment, PSA testing intervals, age-specific action levels, referral thresholds and the use of mpMRI before biopsy.
