Prepare for the new Aged Care Act
The new Aged Care Act is set to commence on 1 November 2025, bringing major reforms to how aged care is delivered across Australia. To support this transition, the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has released a suite of education and training resources tailored for aged care providers, workers, volunteers, older people, and their families.
What’s Available?
The education and training section includes:
- eLearning modules for different audiences:
- Older people, families and carers
- Aged care providers
- Aged care workers and volunteers
- Roadmaps outlining key dates and milestones for digital systems, legislation, training, and operational readiness
- A Sector Change Plan and Provider Operational Readiness Priority Actions List to guide organisations through the reform process
- A Guide to Aged Care Law written in accessible language
- Resources for primary care and allied health professionals, assessors, and technology enablers
These resources are designed to help everyone in the aged care ecosystem understand what’s changing, what’s staying the same, and what actions are needed to prepare.
Why It Matters
The new Act places the rights of older people at the centre of the aged care system. It introduces stronger safeguards, clearer responsibilities, and a more transparent framework for care delivery.
Whether you're a provider, a frontline worker, or supporting a loved one, these resources will help you:
- Understand your obligations
- Prepare for operational changes
- Deliver care that is safe, respectful, and rights-based
