Preparing for extreme heat and heatwaves- for health professionals

During periods of extreme heat, GPs play an essential role in preventing and managing heat-related illness.

With hot weather approaching, GPs are encouraged to share information about staying healthy in the heat with their patients.

This includes:

• sharing the Healthy in the Heat booklet
• sharing the SES Easy English Heatwave factsheet
• advising vulnerable and isolated patients to register with the free Telecross REDi service (1800 188 071), so they receive check-in calls during declared heatwaves.
