This workshop assists primary health care providers to deliver culturally safe and respectful practices for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and responsive services that promote improved health and wellbeing outcomes.

Participation in this workshop enables general practices to meet the cultural awareness training requirements of the Practice Incentives Program (PIP) Indigenous Health Incentive (IHI). A certificate of attendance will be provided and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points can be self-recorded.

Learning outcomes include:

  • Examine the health status of Aboriginal communities
  • Discuss the principles of cultural safety and patient centred approaches to health care
  • Discuss Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing, and social history
  • Outline the impact of sustained government policies and racism on Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing.
