This CPD activity aims to equip GPs with evidence-based knowledge and practical skills to support patients undergoing a robotic-assisted total knee replacement (TKR)

Dr Matthew Liptak will provide a brief presentation followed by a demonstration in theatre using the Velys robotic system. GPs will have a true picture of the procedure as it is performed live with interactivedescription throughout the case.

With rising rates of knee osteoarthritis and increasing use of robotic technology, GPs must understand the surgical rationale, patient selection criteria, and robotic workflows to guide informed referrals. Post-operatively, GPs play a vital role in monitoring recovery, managing pain, and identifying complications. The module integrates rehabilitation protocols, physiotherapy insights, and real-world case studies to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration. By the end of the session, GPs will be able to recognise key red flags, navigate referral pathways, and confidently manage patients from pre-op to recovery.

Learning outcomes
1. Discuss patient self-management of knee osteoarthritis including non pharmacological pain management, participation in usual activities and life roles, and supports and services available including allied health services.
2. Explain the principles of robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery, patient selection criteria and surgical workflow.
3. Develop multidisciplinary management plans for post operative recovery including pain management, rehabilitation and mobility guidance, to address patient individual physical, functional, and psychosocial needs and goals.
4. Identify potential postoperative complications and red flags; and determine when to escalate care or re-refer to the surgeon
