The Australian and New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine 2024 conference will be held in leafy Adelaide between Thursday September 5th and Sunday 8th September 2024.

This will be the 30th anniversary of the first ANZSPM meeting. I am delighted on behalf of the ANZSPM 2024 Conference Organising Committee and the ANZSPM President and the ANZSPM Board to welcome you to this very special and exciting meeting.

Our theme is “30 Years of Palliative Medicine: Constructing, Challenging, Transforming.” We look forward to 4 days with international and national plenary speakers, workshops, invited and offered papers and posters, a trainee day, and satellite sessions, all surrounded with fun, fellowship and learning. We are looking forward to celebrating the Australian and the New Zealand components of our Society, as well as the adult and paediatric challenges of our work. ANZSPM conferences have travelled all around our countries and Adelaide last was the site of the 2012 conference. Much of our organisation’s origins started with the charismatic pioneers in Adelaide. I was a part of organising the 2012 meeting, and the ANZSPM 2024 Organising Committee is relishing the opportunity to deliver a conference and cultural experience to enhance your knowledge and spirit, and to return you to your workplaces refreshed and invigorated.

The age of 30 suggests maturity and a time in life when one has some insights and experience but there is still much to learn and room for further maturity and growth, but also a chance to reflect on one’s development and past achievements. We hope that this meeting will bring together our shared desire to provide high-quality, compassionate, person and family centred care for all people facing the approaching end of their lives in a changing environment, and reinforce and invigorate your passion for this work.
