Event Description
As a Narrative Therapist, Tamara Young will assist primary health care professionals to recognise and respond to the effects of trauma with cultural sensitivity. Participants will learn practical trauma informed strategies, enabling the creation of safe and supportive environments that promote recovery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Learning Outcomes
- Understanding Trauma - Gain an understanding of what trauma is, how it is connected to colonisation and the ongoing impact it has on Aboriginal communities.
- Types of Trauma - Recognise the different forms of trauma impacting Aboriginal communities, including intergenerational and systemic trauma.
- Trauma Responses and Behaviours - Identify how trauma can show up emotionally, physically, and psychologically, and understand behaviours in Aboriginal young people through a trauma-informed lens.
- Supporting People - Develop practical strategies to provide culturally safe and emotionally supportive responses to Aboriginal people experiencing trauma.
Presenter Bio
Tamara Young is an Aboriginal Narrative Therapist, qualified Trainer and Assessor, and the Founder and Director of Wonky Lines Counselling, a profit-for-purpose social enterprise on Kaurna Country dedicated to healing, cultural safety, and community wellbeing. Tamara’s work sits at the intersection of storytelling, culture, trauma-informed practice, and social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB). Tamara specialises in supporting individuals, organisations, and communities to re-author their stories, strengthen identity, and deepen cultural awareness.
