About the session:

GLP-1 receptor agonists have transformed the landscape of weight management and metabolic health, generating significant interest across healthcare settings. This session will provide an overview of the history and mechanism of action of GLP-1 medications, exploring how they work, their evidence base, and what we currently know about their effectiveness.

Moving beyond the science, the presentation will examine some of the complex clinical and ethical conundrums emerging in Eating Disorder care. The session will also introduce the DECISION Framework as a practical tool to support reflexive practice and, and collaborative decision-making with clients and multi-disciplinary teams.  

Objectives:

• Outline the basic mode of action and intended use of GLP-1 agonists
• Examine common issues seen in practice
• Examine current research of GLP-1 agonist use in those with eating disorders
• Utilise a person-centred neutral paradigm
• Considering the evidence of ED safe practice guidelines
