National Mpox Webinar: Vaccination and Testing
There has been an increase of local mpox transmission rates in Australia, namely in NSW and VIC, but also in most jurisdictions. Although vaccination rates are rising, in NSW and VIC, only 15-20% have completed the full required course of two doses of the mpox vaccine (GBQ+ periodic survey). Testing is still imperative even in those who are vaccinated, as those who suffer milder disease may transmit it to someone without adequate protection, potentially leading to severe illness requiring hospitalisation. This webinar will discuss vaccination strategies, when to consider mpox as a differential diagnosis, and provide insights on clade 1b.
Learning outcomes:
- Summarize Mpox transmission and vaccination rates across all Australian jurisdictions
- Prepare healthcare practices for delivering Mpox vaccination to at-risk populations
- Apply knowledge of Mpox signs and symptoms to effectively test at-risk individuals
- Understand the distinctions between Mpox clades 1b and 2b
