GPEx and the Australasian Sleep Association invite GPs and primary health care teams to attend a dinner workshop providing education and training on Obstructive Sleep Apnea as part of our GP Education Program.

This workshop will provide attendees with an overview of how to diagnose and treat patients with suspected obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), including: implications for driving, differential diagnosis for a complaint of excessive daytime sleepiness, how to manage patients on CPAP, as well as non-CPAP therapy options.

Attendees at this workshop will be able to:

  • Understand the prevalence, clinical features of and how to diagnose obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and implications for driving following an OSA diagnosis.
  • Interpret a diagnostic polysomnography report
  • Appreciate the differential diagnoses when a patient presents with a complaint of excessive daytime sleepiness and/or their sleep study shows no or only mild OSA
  • Describe the treatments available for OSA, including non-CPAP therapy options
  • Understand how to manage a patient on continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy, including how to deal with common side effects and interpret CPAP download reports.
