Pregnancy Choices Training
Learn how to provide support and information through a greater understanding of pregnancy choices.
This training explores the decisions people may face when continuing or not continuing a pregnancy. You'll hear from a range of guest speakers with expertise in areas like abortion care, pregnancy counselling, and antenatal and postnatal support.
The course is practical and informative, covering clinical options as well as the broader social, cultural, and political factors that can influence pregnancy experiences. Cultural considerations are woven throughout the content and resources to support respectful, person-centred care.
Participants will:
- Discuss the global, national and local overview of unintended pregnancy
- Consider the cultural implications of pregnancy from an Aboriginal perspective
- Learn about reproductive coercion, family and domestic violence in the context of pregnancy
- Develop an awareness of contraception options available in Australia including emergency contraception
- Explore a broader understanding of abortion, counselling responses to pregnancy, antenatal and postnatal pathways
Eligibility: The course is open to nurses, midwives, doctors, counsellors, community health workers, school counsellors, youth workers, Aboriginal Health Workers and any professional who may work with people who may experience an unintended pregnancy.
