Webinar: updated Australian Asthma Guidelines + new resources
The National Asthma Council (NAC) has updated the Australian guidelines on asthma management https://www.asthmahandbook.org.au/ in September 2025. The NAC's updated Australian Asthma Handbook outlines important new recommendations that encourage health professionals to stop prescribing or advising treatment with as-needed short-acting beta2 agonists (SABA) alone to manage asthma in adults and adolescents. The revised guidelines now recommend anti-inflammatory reliever (AIR) only therapy and maintenance-and-reliever therapy (MART) for adults and adolescents (aged over 12). This focus centres on alleviating chronic inflammation in the airways, not just treating the symptoms.
To support the updated the Australian guidelines on asthma management, NAC has released new accompanying resources to help with translation into practice: https://www.nationalasthma.org.au/news/2026/suite-of-information-sheets-launched-on-five-key-asthma-topics
To help with implementation of the new asthma guidelines, NAC are hosting a free CPD webinar: Reshaping Asthma Management on Thursday 14 May at 7pm, presented by:
A/Prof Debbie Rigby: NAC Clinical Executive Lead and Advanced Practice Pharmacist
Dr Brett Montgomery: NAC Guidelines Committee Chair and GP
A/Prof Greg Katsoulotos: NAC Guidelines Committee member and Respiratory, Sleep and Allergy Physician.
