Adelaide PHN Announces New CEO

In May 2021, Adelaide PHN sought Expressions of Interest for the next term of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The Adelaide PHN Board is now delighted to confirm that Michelle McKay has been appointed CEO and will start in the role on Monday 2 August 2021.
From a clinical background in emergency nursing, for over 20 years Michelle has held a range of executive roles in the health sector across Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory, in both public and not-for-profit sectors; and in the United Kingdom’s National Health Service. Most recently, Michelle has served as the Chief Operating Officer (CEO equivalent) of the Top End Health Service within NT Health, where she has led 5,000 staff with a budget of $1bn. She has previously held executive roles in Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, UK, Uniting Care Queensland, and Executive Director of Planning and Performance at SA Health, in addition to roles at Queensland Health.
Adelaide PHN’s Chair of Board, Mr Tom Symonds said “we had a strong field of candidates, and in addition to Michelle’s impressive background, importantly, Michelle demonstrated a clear focus on values and ethical decision-making and is committed to openness in communication and transparent decision-making processes. It is evident that she consistently demonstrates the highest level of integrity and has a personal commitment to service to community, which is crucial to the future of Adelaide PHN”.

Adelaide PHN continues to focus on improving health outcomes and the experience of primary care within the Adelaide region. By undertaking this process, we are in the best position to see the organisation’s continued success through its dedicated staff and valued stakeholders well into the future.
The Board are grateful for Sarah Murray, who has supported Adelaide PHN as Interim CEO during this process and will continue to do so until Michelle comes onboard.
