Phase 1b COVID-19 Vaccine Roll-out Starts Today Across Adelaide

Phase 1b COVID-19 Vaccine Roll-out Starts Today Across Adelaide

Almost 200 general practices in our region have opted in to deliver the COVID-19 vaccines for phase 1b of the roll-out, with eligible practices being onboarded to the vaccination program week-by-week. There are 70 clinics in week one that are set to commence vaccinations from Monday 22 March 2021, with additional practices following over the coming weeks.

Those eligible for phase 1b vaccinations include:

  • Adults 70 years and over;
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults over 55;
  • Adults with a specific medical condition;
  • Adults with a disability who have specified underlying medical conditions;
  • Other health care workers; and
  • Critical/high risk workers (including defence, police, fire, emergency services and meat processing).

The phase 1b roll-out across the practices is being managed by the Adelaide Primary Health Network (Adelaide PHN) with the number of participating practices expected to increase from 70 to 200 over the next four weeks.

Adelaide PHN CEO Deb Lee urged South Australians to check their eligibility and for their nearest participating GP clinic.

“This is a milestone day for clinics in South Australia as they begin the process of administering the phase 1b vaccine,” Ms Lee said.

“It’s really important that people understand whether they are eligible and, if so, that they don’t have to attend their regular GP to receive the vaccine.

“I would also urge people to be patient. We are working closely with SA Health analysing population data and focus areas to ensure that our most vulnerable community members are vaccinated first.”

Adelaide PHN will continue to play a key role in the South Australian response to COVID-19. We are deeply appreciative of the overwhelming and positive support received by our general practices throughout this vaccination roll-out, and will continue to keep practices, providers, and our community up to date with the latest COVID-19 information as it becomes available.
