In this education session, Dr John Callary, Dr Stephanie Taylor and Angus Weller will discuss current recommendations for the treatment of young people experiencing psychosis, screening tools and referral pathways available in the region.
Learning outcomes:
- Describe the rationale behind early intervention in the treatment of psychosis
- Summarise current recommendations for treatment, including the prescription of anti-psychotic medication for young people experiencing a first episode of psychosis
- Describe the specialist Early Psychosis program at headspace Adelaide, including referral pathways and lived experience insights provided by a young person who has received care from this program
- Develop confidence in undertaking an assessment of a young person with symptoms of psychosis by implementing the use of a brief screening tool
Suitable for GPs, psychiatric registrars, medical officers and psychiatrists.
