About this resource

The Australian Government recognizes that people living with rare and complex diseases share common challenges in navigating the health system.

The Government is funding Rare Voices Australia (RVA) for the Navigator Project. This program helps Australian’s living with rare and complex diseases, their families, carers, and support people to better navigate the health care system.

As part of this project, RVA has established the RARE Helpline, a dedicated service which supports people to connect with reliable information and resources.

Trained and compassionate personnel can:

  • give information about diseases
  • provide support for people seeking a diagnosis
  • supply contact details for support organisations and clinical centres.
  • offer emotional support.

The RARE Helpline operates between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, from Monday to Friday, for patients, families, carers and health professionals.
