Procedures for requesting medical compression garments

Those prescribing medical compression garments for eligible Veteran Card holders, must make their request through a Department of Veterans’ Affairs’ (DVA) contracted supplier.
This includes off-contract and custom medical compression garments. If none of the contracted items are clinically suitable for the client, additional justification must be provided by the prescriber for the item to be supplied.
The Rehabilitation Appliance Program National Schedule of Equipment was updated to reflect these arrangements on 15 April 2024.
Medical compression garments can be prescribed by one of the following health providers:
- Registered Nurse
- Physiotherapist
- Podiatrist
- General Practitioner
- Specialist
- Occupational Therapist
To be eligible to receive a medical compression garment a DVA client must have an assessed clinical need. They must also hold either a Veteran Gold Card, or a Veteran White Card with an accepted condition, where the item is reasonably necessary for appropriate clinical treatment of the condition.
To prescribe, complete the D0992 Order Form – RAP Mobility & Functional Support Products and send to a DVA contracted supplier.
If the client requires a custom or off-contract medical compression garment, provide additional clinical justification along with the D0992 Order Form. The contracted supplier will then obtain prior-approval from DVA.
