The Primary Health Research Interest Group

The Primary Health Research Interest Group

The Primary Health Research Interest Group initiative was recently launched with the aim to build research capacity within Adelaide PHN and among the broader primary care research community.

Led by Professor Stacey George, who holds a joint appointment between Adelaide PHN and Flinders University, in collaboration with Health Translation SA (HTSA), the initiative seeks to achieve a range of key objectives.

Firstly, it aims to enhance research capacity within Adelaide PHN, as well as engage with researchers interested in the primary care space. Secondly, the initiative seeks to promote and provide a platform for discussing current research in primary health care. Lastly, it endeavours to establish connections between researchers, clinical practitioners, policy makers, and program staff involved or interested in primary care research.

Meetings of the Interest Group will take place monthly via webinar, providing an accessible forum for engagement and collaboration. The inaugural session, held on Thursday, April 11th, featured presentations from Professor Anna Ziersch and Dr. Moira Walsh of Flinders University, who shared their expertise on findings and approaches in Refugee Health Research. The next session, scheduled for Thursday 9 May at 12.15pm, will focus on the topic area of Research with people who are Homeless. This session promises to further explore critical issues within primary health care research and facilitate meaningful discussion among participants.

Overall, the Primary Health Research Interest Group Initiative aligns with Adelaide PHN's vision of shaping the health system to deliver better outcomes for vulnerable communities and contribute to a healthier Adelaide. Through collaboration, knowledge sharing and targeted research efforts, the initiative support Adelaide PHN’s vision in shaping the health system to deliver better outcomes for vulnerable communities and healthier Adelaide.
