ADVANCED MANAGEMENT OF ANXIETY DISORDERS: FOCUSED PSYCHOLOGICAL STRATEGIES (3 Sep - 5 Sep)

What: This 20-hour training aims to provide GPs and mental health professionals with the skills and knowledge to effectively assess and manage anxiety disorders, and to develop skills in relevant evidence-based therapies (CBT, relaxation therapy).
This activity is accredited by the RACGP (40 CPD points); ACRRM as PDP activity; and the GPMHSC as Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training.
The format will be interactive, with case discussions and skills development. It will be facilitated by Dr Cate Howell and Dr Michele Murphy (Clinical Psychologist), authors of ‘Release Your Worries: A Guide to Letting Go of Stress and Anxiety’.

On completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish the perspectives and needs of consumers and carers to inform care.
  • Determine the appropriate MBS items to utilise in relation to mental health care and delivery of Focussed Psychological Strategies.
  • Describe effective assessment of patients experiencing anxiety disorders.
  • Generate comprehensive management plans for patient with different types of anxiety disorders.
  • Implement focussed psychological strategies for patients with anxiety disorders including psycho-education regarding nature of the disorder and related resources.

To be held on Friday Sept 3rd (registration 4.45pm, course 5-9pm); Saturday 4th Sept 8.30am-5.45pm; Sunday 5th 8.30am-5.00pm**

Suitable for GPs.
