Refugee Health: culturally safe assessment and referral pathways

Time: 6:00PM - 9:00PM (ACDT)

Venue: Upnext, 313 Payneham Road, Royston Park SA

Australia has a long history of providing resettlement for refugees and people displaced due to conflict, persecution, and human rights abuses. People from refugee background have often endured significant hardship with limited access to healthcare, education as well as food insecurity. Consequently, they are at risk of untreated and undiagnosed chronic disease, micronutrient deficiencies, infectious diseases not commonly seen in Australia, as well as psychosocial issues related to their migration history. General Practice plays an important role in undertaking post-arrival health assessments and providing ongoing healthcare. In this workshop you will gain a better understanding of refugee health assessment, trauma informed care, mental health screening and appropriate referral pathways.
